The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual
renewal program designed to develop
Christian disciples and leaders.
The
program models Christ’s servanthood
and encourages
us to be a
servant to all.
The Walk is a 72 hour short course in Christianity and is comprised of
15 talks by laity and clergy on the themes of God’s grace, disciplines of
Christian discipleship and what it means to be the church. The course
is wrapped in prayer and meditation, worship and daily celebration of
Holy Communion. Each walk is supported with prayer, meal
preparation and other acts of love by those who have previously
attended an Emmaus weekend.
People who attend an Emmaus walk are encouraged to support one
another in faithful living. Participants seek to bring Christ into their
family, job, and community through the ministries of their
congregations. The 3 day Emmaus experience and follow-up groups
strengthen Christians as disciples of Jesus and as active members of
the body of Christ.
Although Emmaus is connected through the Upper Room to The
United Methodist Church, The Walk to Emmaus is
non-denominational. We are fortunate to have a large and strong
Emmaus community in our church. Our church is involved in the Heart of Carolina Emmaus Community. Visit their website for information on local activities and walks. Also visit the Upper Room Emmaus Website to learn more about the walks and how you can become
involved in this group of Christian disciples.
